Preparing for the Next Awakening
Positioning Ourselves for the Next Great Awakening
In the face of discouragement and despair, many in the body of Christ question their ability to make a difference in our culture. The moral decline, the rise of secularism, and the seeming loss of the Church's influence can be disheartening. However, it's crucial to remember that God loves His Church and desires to dwell in our midst. He has equipped us to make a difference, and every action we take for the Lord contributes to the manifestation of His Kingdom.
The Battle of Ai: A Lesson in Spiritual Warfare
The Battle of Ai, as recounted in the Book of Joshua, offers valuable insights into our spiritual journey. Fresh from their victory over Jericho, Israel faced a series of battles to claim the promised land. Their journey was marked by victories and setbacks, much like our spiritual battles today.
Our warfare, however, differs significantly. We don't destroy cities or kill people; instead, we endeavor to reach people for Jesus and establish His Kingdom on earth. We live in the "Already/Not Yet" manifestation of God's Kingdom, where the future reign of God breaks into the present through the life and ministry of Jesus and His people.
Understanding the State of the World
In Matthew 24:4-14, Jesus warns us about the end times, filled with deception, wars, persecution, and increased wickedness. Our reactions to these prophecies can range from denial and escapism to fear and cynicism. Some may even resort to a form of godliness, as described in 2 Timothy 3:1-5, where outward religiosity masks a denial of God's power. However, these reactions miss the mark. We are not called to live in fear or denial, but to prepare for the next move of God. Historically, God often awakens the Church before He visits the world.
The Call to Consecration
In Joshua 6, the Israelites devote the city of Jericho to the Lord, destroying everything within it. This act of devotion symbolizes the need for us to consecrate ourselves to God, laying aside anything that doesn't align with His will. Some things from our past need to be devoted to God so that they are removed from our lives permanently, while others may be set aside for a season, only to be returned under God's guidance.
Spiritual Reconnaissance and the Consequences of Disobedience
Joshua 7 recounts the Israelites' defeat at Ai due to Achan's disobedience. Achan coveted and took items devoted to destruction, bringing defeat upon Israel. This story serves as a stark reminder that covetousness and disobedience can hinder our spiritual victories.
To break free from such bondage, we need to consecrate ourselves, present ourselves to God, confess our sins, and repent. This process applies to individuals, churches, and the Church throughout history.
Embracing the Methodology of the Kingdom of God
As we position ourselves for the next great awakening, we must embrace the methodology of the Kingdom. This involves trusting in God's divine power, as described in 2 Peter 1:3-11, and refusing to rely on worldly methods which fail the way Saul's armor was inadequate as a resource for David against Goliath.
We need to become a spiritual household, as 1 Peter 2:4-6 encourages us, connected to one another and offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God. Our decision-making should be led by the Lord, and we should live in the fear of the Lord, desiring to please Him above all else.
Becoming the Spiritually Cohesive Body of Christ
The Church must move beyond organizational cohesiveness and become a spiritually cohesive body. We are not merely an organization but an organism, growing in unity and connectedness. We must understand that every action we take in the Church matters and contributes to the Kingdom of God.
Walking in Peace and Power
As we position ourselves for the next great awakening, we are called to walk in peace and power. Colossians 3:15-17 encourages us to let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts and to do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Conclusion - Making a Difference
In conclusion, despite the challenges we face in our culture today, we can, we are, and we will make a difference. We are called to make a difference, we are already making a difference, and God will increase His equipping and anointing in our lives to make an even greater difference. As we position ourselves for the next great awakening, let us remember that we are part of God's Kingdom, called to manifest His glory on earth.
